Welcome to Not a Typical Shop, a sacred online space born from our love for tradition, connection, and the wisdom of the Andes. What began as a way to share the beauty of our land has become a gathering place for hearts who value meaning over mass production and spirit over business.
Every piece you find here is handmade with care, carrying the stories of indigenous artisans and the living spirit of the mountains. These creations aren’t just objects, they’re companions for your path of healing, remembering, and coming home to yourself.
For us, Not a Typical Shop is more than a store. It’s family, it’s community, and it’s a place where seekers, makers, and dreamers meet. When you join us, you become part of a shared journey, one that honors the Earth, the ancestors, and the sacred weaving of life that connects us all.
Our MISSION
At Not a Typical Shop, our mission is to share authentic, ethically sourced sacred tools that embody the essence of indigenous traditions. We walk with deep respect for the communities we collaborate with, supporting local artisans through fair trade practices while honoring the sacred origins of each piece. Our purpose is to offer seekers tools that inspire healing, awaken consciousness, and reconnect us to what is unseen, but always present.
Our Vision
We envision a world where every creation is born of authenticity and intention. By working hand in hand with indigenous artisans, we commit to preserving traditions, uplifting communities, and protecting the sanctity of the earth. Whether you are drawn to a shamanic tool, a piece of artwork, or a symbol of spirit, our vision is to provide you with access to treasures that help you remember and reclaim your deeper connection with life itself.
Meet Kamel – Founder of Not a Typical Shop
Kamel is the visionary and space-holder behind Not a Typical Shop. Born in the Ivory Coast of West Africa, his journey has taken him across continents, immersing himself in diverse spiritual traditions and healing modalities.
From his West African roots, he learned the path of the spirit, later blending this wisdom with a scientific background to bridge the physical and the mystical in a profound way. His path has led him to train with respected teachers of the Quechuan and Q’ero traditions, to study tarot, Reiki, hypnotherapy, coaching, and breathwork, all of which inform his holistic approach to transformation.
He also offers dark & silence retreats: immersive experiences that weave together ritual, music, movement, and ceremony. His retreats are sacred spaces where participants can release, realign, and step fully into their power.
Kamel is dedicated to helping others unlock their deepest potential, live in alignment with their truth, and walk their path with courage and clarity.
Meet Claire – Guardian of Flow & Balance
Claire is the gentle heart that anchors Not a Typical Shop. Born in France, Claire’s journey led her from corporate life in Ireland to a deep dive into Yoga, Ayurveda, and Yoga Nidra. She spent two transformative years in Bali studying Ayurveda with her teacher, followed by travels across Mexico, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Peru, the land that captured her heart and where she now lives.
A Yoga Nidra teacher, Ayurveda counselor, Moon lover, and passionate student of Jyotisha (Vedic astrology), Claire artfully weaves lunar wisdom and elemental magic into her offerings: Mosqoy Ushay & Mosqoy Quilla. The Quechua words “Mosqoy” (dream) and “Ushay” (balance and harmony), infuse both her practice and her daily care for the shop.
At Not a Typical Shop, she organizes and balances the practical flow of orders with the sacred intention behind every piece, nurturing the heartfelt connection between artisan and seeker.
Meet Our Artisans
Julia Cóndori:
Mama Julia lives in Pacchanta at the foot of the Ausangate with her husband Rufino, but most of the time you will find her with her alpacas near a lake, watching over them from a hill, weaving. She rinses the wool in glacial meltwater, dyes it with natural dyes, and then begins to weave. In her weaving, she captures what she experiences and feels around her. Once the work is finished, she buries it for several weeks so that it receives Pachamama’s energy. Julia also accompanies Rufino, Pampamisayoc, in his despachos. She was struck by lightning once. She has seen the puma several times, but her dog, Osito, always defends the herd. The shack where she lives guards the memory of the legendary Nazario Altomisayoq, who defended his community against the landowner and the mining industry.
